Today we are going to be taking a look at the origin of the cocktail along with some of our favourite recommendations which you can enjoy at The Beach Club Higuerón. By the end of this post you should have enough information to choose your new favourite drink with confidence!
When Were the Famous "Cocktails" Born?
The first written mentions of the word "cocktail" date back to 1806. However, the origin of these combinations of alcohol and spices is also associated with Greek times, when they mixed wine with different spices, plants or even spoonfuls of honey, until they obtained a drink with a more pleasant taste.
Since then, countless combinations have been invented with all kinds of alcoholic beverages mixed with various ingredients, the most common being mint sprigs, brown sugar, pepper, salt, lime or orange juice and sugar syrup, among others. The result of this experimentation? A wide range of drinks, both "with" and "without" alcohol, that you can find on the menu of any restaurant in almost any corner of the world.
The Classics: Margarita, Piña Colada or Dry Martini
You're probably already familiar with classic cocktails like the Margarita, Piña Colada, Dry Martini and Sex on the Beach, though what if we were to tell you that there are as many cocktail creations out there as there are people drinking them?
Directly from bella Italia, we bring you the Negroni: an intense cocktail with a bitter flavour. To prepare this cocktail you’ll need to use three alcoholic beverages: Tanqueray Ten, Martini Bitter and Vermouth Belsazar Rojo… and as a final touch: a small amount of orange peel or a slice of orange.
Another classic, and one that has increased in popularity after the success of Bad Bunny's song in its honour, is the Moscow Mule. This spicy and fresh cocktail is prepared with ciroc, lime juice, sugar and ginger ale, which adds a touch of freshness. See for yourself why reggaetoneros everywhere sing the praises of this drink.
Of course, we can’t make this list without mentioning the Pisco Sour, a cocktail of Peruvian origin and ideal if you like citrus flavours. To make this delicious drink, lime, sugar and angostura are added to a grape brandy, also known as pisco. The mixture of these flavours reduces the acid taste, though at the same time preserves its essence.
Innovative Cocktails
We love classic cocktails, but even more we love to experiment and innovate with our creations! Therefore, we want to suggest some of the most original and unique options we have available on the three different menus of The Beach Club Higuerón. If you take a look at the cocktail sections, you will see that all of our cocktails can be characterised by the originality of their names. For example the Mazorca de feria, Hangover Cure, Malacitan Colada, Naked & Famous or No Sangria, No Party. Tempting, isn't it?
One of our favourite bars at The Beach Club Higuerón is "The Japo", which serves plenty of Japanese cocktails. The Michelada Ichiban with Sriracha and the Konichigua cocktail with hints of jasmine and peach soda are our personal favourites.
Non-alcoholic Cocktail Options
If you don’t drink alcohol, you can still enjoy the unmistakable taste of many cocktails in their "mocktail" version. For example, classic drinks like the mojito or the piña colada can also be enjoyed without alcohol.
At The Beach Club Higuerón we have two mocktail options. Although these mocktails are non-alcoholic, they share the essence and taste of a classic cocktail. The first one is the Flor and Flow, a fresh drink with a surprising citric touch made with Floreale Martini, ginger, lime and grapefruit soda. If you prefer a fruity option, try our spicy Darling cocktail, which combines paragon timur berry with honey, peach soda and jasmine.
So, what are you waiting for? Visit The Beach Club Higuerón and enjoy a good cocktail as the finishing touch to an unforgettable evening or relax on one of our Balinese beds while you enjoy this refreshing drink.
